Safety Rules
General Rules
  • All Participants must read and complete a Participant Agreement. Minors (those under the age of 18) must have the Participant Agreement completed by their natural guardian.
  • No Smoking.
  • No alcohol or drugs, or persons under the influence of either.
  • Roughhousing and running is not permitted.
  • Food and drinks are not permitted in the climbing areas, except for plastic bottled water.
  • For the respect of all participants and to confirm adherence to these Safety Rules, adult supervision is required for children under 14, during any activity, climbing or belaying.

Climbing Rules
  • All climbers and belayers must demonstrate proper belay technique to Aiguille staff prior to using the facility.
  • The minimum age for belaying is 14 years old.
  • Belayers must be attentive and stand while belaying.
  • Participants must use UIAA approved harnesses, carabiners and belay devices.
  • Harnesses must be worn with waist belt snug to abdomen over the hips, and legs loops correctly sized.
  • Climbers must tie in with a Figure 8 Follow Thru Knot, and use a Double Fisherman’s Knot as a backup.
  • Climbers must tie in through the appropriate harness point(s).
  • Use of UIAA certified climbing helmets, by both climbers and belayers, is recommended.
  • Climbers must wear closed toe footwear, no barefoot climbing.
  • Use only holds and wall for climbing. Do not touch exposed metal, i.e. top-rope tubes, structural steel, lead anchors, etc.
  • No climbing over the top of any wall. No climbing above top-rope tubes or on top of bouldering wall.
  • Do not climb underneath other climbers on lead, top-rope and bouldering walls.
  • Climbers are asked to use chalk balls to reduce airborne dust.

Lead Climbing Rules
  • All lead climbers and lead belayers must successfully complete the Lead Check-off.
  • Lead climbers must clip all anchors, in order, and the correct direction; no back-clips, no Z-clips.
  • Lead climbers must provide their own UIAA Single lead rope.

Bouldering Rules
  • The use of at least one spotter is recommended when bouldering.
  • Boulder within your personal competency limits.
  • When bouldering on top-rope and lead walls, keep your feet below the painted line.
  • Do not boulder underneath other climbers at anytime, in any area of the gym.
  • Children must not play in the bouldering area.
  • Small children should only boulder under the DIRECT supervision of their parent and/or chaperones. Small children should stay well below the 4ft line. Parents - this is your responsibility!

Aiguille Rock Climbing Center wants to provide a fun environment for all participants and spectators. Aiguille reserves the right to deny or revoke access to anyone for any act deemed inappropriate.

Aiguille Rock Climbing Center reserves the right to amend these Safety Rules at anytime.
